My journey into motherhood, my journey into supporting other families

I was born in Madrid 37 years ago. Before moving to Finland, 5 years ago, I lived in Barcelona. My first son was born there, in a extremely traumatic, non-respected birth that made me realise how much we need to change the way we are born. I decided to educate myself so I could be part of that change. Since I moved to Finland I’ve been an activist for better birth and postpartum specially among the international community living in Helsinki metropolitan area. I believe all human beings are equal and I stand for LTBQI+ rights. My daughter was born in Finland, at home, while my path as family supporter had already started.

¡Hola!

What you are living now, will change it all

Having children changes everything. And I’m not referring to the classic – and stupid, dare I say – “forget about sleeping well forever” comment. The conception of a baby, childbirth and parenting cross all levels of our being.

In this process you deserve all the attention and professional support you feel you need. No, you are not selfish. No, you are not “lacking” anything nor are you less than another person who does not ask for this help.

Every day I strive to:

  • educate about a healthy and joyful pregnancy, an informed and empowered birth and a calm postpartum
  • debunk old myths about breastfeeding and help families in crisis over feeding their babies
  • create a community of international families in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa… A human, respectful, inclusive and active community.
  • bring joy and movement to the motherhood and fatherhood processes

I met Maria in person on various events related to parenthood. Also, I have participated to numerous webinars she hosted and the most important thing is that I've got a support from her in the most vulnerable period I've ever been, after my delivery. You are one very caring, loving and nice person, thank you for everything you do for families ❤️

"My experience with Maria was great. She was always available to help with our doubts and questions as a new parents, before, during and after our baby was born. She informed us about the whole process, including: pregnancy, different techniques to breath, to relax, massages, etc, to me and to my partner to help me during labor, breastfeeding, postpartum, even what to expect from the hospital. She was with us all the time at the hospital, she made the communication with nurses and doctors easier and her support was key for us to stay calm. Her breathing techniques and massages helped me relieve pain. After birth she supported us with all our questions about breastfeeding and she even cooked some delicious meals which we appreciated a lot. There are not enough words to thank her for being with us during this beautiful and intense journey.

This seems like long time ago but I am eternally grateful for Maria to come to my home mid-corona (!) and to give me so much guidance regarding breastfeeding. When I think about it, I want to cry from gratitude. My daughter was born 2,3 kilos and she wouldn’t latch. I’ve pumped for 3 months and was so deeply frustrated because I wanted to breastfeed so badly and it just didn’t happen. And on top of that I had no support due to closed borders and my mom being stuck abroad for 1,5 years. I felt lost and alone. Most importantly Maria supported me! It was important she saw me face to face and showed me different ways I could try. I felt not alone. She also was kind to help me to stop breastfeeding and I felt I can reach out to her. My daughter is now 3,5 and I’m still breastfeeding her 😂 Thank you Maria

I had a very positive experience with María. I had problems with breastfeeding my newborn and she was the expert who pointed out what the problem could be. Thanks to her recommendation, we have visited doctors and through a minor operation, I was able to breastfeed my baby for the first time. I will always be grateful for her help and wisdom. I would recommend her services to any new mother.

I met María in the New Mothers Group couple of years ago. She was advising us on breastfeeding and bottle feeding. María was very professional sharing information based on the latest research which is much more useful than my mother in laws 30+ years old wholeheartedly shared knowledge about breastfeeding.

María also gently guides hundreds of foreign women with her advices in the support groups and chats. I like to follow her advices because she presents options understanding that mothers make different choices, but she also highlights what is a matter of safety.

I like that she can discuss uncomfortable topics related to motherhood as the most natural thing on this world .This is very refreshing after all of the unrealistic expectations that mothers face everywhere else.

I’m very grateful for her support. It made my journey as a first time mom much easier and safer.

María is a wonderful lactation consultant! She is not only knowledgeable, but also a warm, relatable and kind person who understands the struggles of a new mom.

I asked María’s help when my second baby was born and I faced challenges that I had never experienced with my first child. She listened to my questions and helped me through my concerns. She was thorough and encouraging.

Her suggestions meant instant solutions to our problems. After our session she sent a summary of our appointment, which was super helpful later on too.
I’m grateful to have met María and I highly recommend her to any new parent.
